By Him, and with Him, and through Him
Each Sunday, we gather to share God’s love and to rejuvenate our souls through Holy Communion. At this service, we give thanks for these gifts and pray that by, with and through God’s many blessings, we may go forth into the world to share God’s love and compassion with others who are less fortunate or who just need our help finding God’s peace in their lives.
The Mission Outreach pillar of St. Paul’s begins when we go forth on this path: by Him, and with Him and through Him, we are representatives of God’s abounding love. There are so many ways that we express this love at St. Paul’s, including through our support of Canterbury Court, the Prayer Shawl Ministry, Goody2Shoes, the Youth Mission Project, our Live Nativity, and so much more!
Our mission outreach changes the lives of those we touch in ways that we will never know. However, one recipient of a prayer shawl knit by your talented hands had these words to share….
A few months after arriving in Dayton, I found myself alone in a hospital bed. Severe pain had overtaken the right side of my face and mouth, and my suffering remained constant. I felt abandoned by God and as close to hopeless as I’d ever been. Soon thereafter, I received a visit from a new neighbor. I remember clearly the goosebumps covering my body and the tears streaming down my cheeks as I read the “Prayer of Blessing” while nestling the silky soft shawl she’d brought.
In my anger and fear, I had closed the door on God. Wrapping myself in this cloak of my favorite color, I knew He hadn’t closed the door on me. He was using people to restore my faith and, through the prayers and the purple shawl, He was calling me back to His love and protection. From that day forward, God has remained by my side. I keep the blessing and shawl close by and the door to God open. To each of you who handmade my cherished prayer shawl, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. God worked through you to bring me back into the Light.
This is just one example of how our mission work enriches the lives of those we serve, including the elderly residents of Canterbury Court who share in fellowship with us and the children who have warm clothes to wear and shoes on their feet, all thanks to our loving outreach. We have so much to be grateful for at St. Paul’s!
