Continuing with our streak of paintings by Rembrandt, this week’s image, “the Storm on the Sea of Galilee” (1633) captures the juxtaposition of the violence of the storm and the disciples’ anxiety at their fate with Jesus’ calm demeanor. This painting, which for years was held at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston was stolen in 1990 and remains missing in what has been described as the most significant art theft in the United States.
