“The Dance of King David Before the Ark of the Covenant” by Zanobi Strozzi

Strozzi was a Renaissance Italian painter from Florence who specialized in altarpieces and manuscript illuminations. This painting is an “initium,” an illuminated capital letter that begins a section of a book. In it, King David is joining hands with his subjects while he holds his scepter, and his psaltery stands behind him.
